Rooks Collection
The focus of the Rooks Collection is African American history and culture, primarily from the post-Civil War period to the end of the 19th century. The works were collected from diverse sources and represent a variety of influences, both American and foreign. [218 records]

United States Civil War Collections
Civil War photos are part of many of our collections and records for them can be found by searching in IMCAT using the subject heading 'United States History - Civil War 1861-1865'. Some of these photos are available in the Bretz and Rooks collections. Many more are available in our Civil War Collection [available soon]. Some of the most famous are included in 'Gardner's Photographic Sketch book of the War' published in 1866. Both volumes of the Sketch book are now available; the original photographs and accompanying text can be viewed in Special collections [call# Bafford E468.7.G2 v.1-2]

The Civil War Collection includes a variety of images collected from a various different donors and have only partial documentation.
