Library Instruction and Information Literacy are programs strongly advocated by the Library, faculty and campus administration. Library instruction at UMBC is provided by the library faculty of the Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery. Our mission is to teach students how to:
- identify and find information using print and electronic resources
- evaluate information that is found
- cite material that is used
- avoid plagiarism and uphold the University's policy on academic integrity
We ask two (2) weeks notice to prepare for your class.

Types of Alerting Services
- Table of contents alerts
  -- email updates of the table of contents of the most current issues of the journals you specify while signing up.
- Daily/weekly email alerts
  -- notify subscribers of articles matching submitted topics. Alert frequencies vary depending on the publisher's database updates.
- Saved search alerts
  -- email notifications of recent articles matching previously submitted searches.
Journal citation reports (highly cited journals by field) More Information

The JCR tracks 7,600 of the most important journals in the sciences and social sciences. With the data provided, researchers can use the JCR to help determine the most influential journals in their disciplines and which journals they should read.
Citation tracking using Web of Knowledge More Information

Citation tracking allows you to see how many times an article has been cited by other articles.
