Create a link to Articles in a database or an E-journal
Due to the different designs of databases, this task is more complicated than others. If you have trouble creating links to a specific article, please feel free to contact us for assistance.
- Use existing persistent links (sometimes called persistent URLs, stable URLs).
Example: EBSCO databases. - After searching for articles, click on the article title to get to the full record.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the Persistent Link
CAUTION: If you search for articles from off-campus, the persistent link you get from the database should have the proxy included. But if you search for articles on campus and the persistent URL does not have this prefix, in order for your students to be able to access the articles from off campus, the persistent link needs to include the prefix for the Libraries' proxy server. You can easily add it to the middle of the link.
Example: UMBC's proxy server prefix is ".proxy-bc.researchport.umd.edu ".- URL from campus:
http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=cmedm&AN=19525946&site=ehost-live - URL from off-campus (including the proxy server prefix):
http://search.ebscohost.com.proxy-bc.researchport.umd.edu/login.aspx?direct=true&db=cmedm&AN=19525946&site=ehost-live
- URL from campus:
- If there is no persistent link available in the database, follow the instructions to "Create a link to an E-journal" and direct students to the E-Journal at volume and issue level. In this case, you may need to provide your students with instructions on how to find the article from this point.
