Serials Desk Hours

The Library subscribes to more than 4,200 current magazine, journal, and newspaper titles which are held in the Serials Department, located on the second floor of the Library. The Serials Department also holds more than 140,000 bound volumes of past journal issues and more than 600,000 pieces of microform. All materials are on open stacks in alphabetical order by title.
The Serials Department also offers access via the World Wide Web to a number of selected Electronic Journals and Electronic Newspapers and News Services, some of which are freely available to anyone, others of which are limited by subscription contract to use only by UMBC (or USM) faculty, staff, and students.
For specific information concerning what journal and newspaper titles and years/issues are held at UMBC, please Search the Serials Holdings List. Print copies of the Serials Holdings List are also available at the Serials Desk, and at the Reference Desk.
Many, but not all of the journals, with our holdings, are also included in catalogusmai - the online catalog of the USM Libraries. The best way to find out if the library has a particular journal in catalogusmai is to use title browse search.
To determine what specific journal articles you need for your research or studies, please consult the Subject Guides for a list of subject-specific article databases. For more information on how to find journal articles, please visit this page.
If you are unable to find an item on the shelf or have any other questions, please ask for assistance at the service desk.
