May 24, 2004--"The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) now offers an open access publishing option. PNAS authors may opt to pay a $1000 surcharge to make their articles available for free via PNAS Online (www.pnas.org) and PubMed Central (www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov) immediately upon publication."
- Four Minnesota private colleges decline Science Direct renewal
May 2004--"Four Minnesota private colleges (Carleton, Gustavus Adolphus, Macalester, and St. Olaf) have independently decided to decline a three year renewal of Science Direct through our regional cooperative, MINITEX. Through a MINITEX subsidy of this e-journal bundle our schools enjoyed access to full text of over 700 e-journals for the past three years, but find we cannot justify renewal of this deal for another three years. "
