What is PDF and why do we use it?

PDF, or Portable Document Format, was developed to aid in cross-platform document transfer. PDF represents the document in a finalized format, totally independent from the computer and programs used in its creation. PDF files will work on just about any computer you have (Windows, DOS, Macintosh, UNIX, etc.). PDFs don’t require you to have the specific word processor or the program that originally created the files.

PDF files may contain features to ensure correct page formatting, hypertext links and other multimedia applications.
