Building Block Research Project
Description
- Students are given assignments throughout the semester that lead to the completion of a final paper or project.
Value
- Students learn about the process of research and avoid simply focusing on completing a final project.
- Students must start their research early and work progressively through the semester.
- Instructors review the assignments throughout the semester and can provide feedback to encourage good final projects.
Goals
- Assignments begin early in the semester and follow a logical development.
- Instructors review all assignments and provide constructive feedback.
Guidelines
- Assignments should build on one another, such as: define topic and research questions using appropriate background resources, bibliography, annotated bibliography, draft of final project, final project.
- Each assignment should be graded and be part of the final grade.
- Students should be given guidance about the resources that can help them complete each assignment (for example, discuss using the Library catalog for finding background resources).
