Policies & Fees
Notification
- Users will be notified by email when an item is ready for pick-up or if there are any problems with fulfilling a request.
- Books, microform, and other non-photocopy items must be picked up at the Circulation Desk in the Kuhn Library.
- Articles are made available to patrons electronically, through their ILLiad accounts, where they will reside for 30 days. Patrons are encouraged to save articles to disk to avoid losing them after the 30 day expiration. Patrons are notified by email when the articles are available.
Cost
There is no charge to current UMBC faculty, staff and students for this service, however, a cap may be set on the $ amount requested for payment. Borrowing charges are paid by Kuhn Library.
Overdue or lost materials, however, are subject to fines and other fees charged
by the lending institution which will be passed on to the requestor.
Loan Period
- Loan periods and restrictions are determined by the lending library; the loan period in most cases is two weeks.
- The due date appears on the sleeve that is attached to the borrowed material.
- Some materials may be designated "Library Use Only" by the lending institition.
- ILL materials may not be placed on reserve.
- Renewals may be requested through your ILLiad account unless the lender has specifically indicated no renewals.
- Requests for renewal should be made two days in advance of the item's due date.
- Libraries that loan materials reserve the right to recall items at any time for their users. These materials have been lent to the library by other institutions, and so we must abide by their rules and due dates.
Returning Borrowed Material
All items borrowed through ILL must be returned to the Circulation Desk by the due date. Patrons ILL borrowing privileges may be limited or cancelled if due dates are ignored.
